Hi Friends,
September is great because it means fall and winter are on their way, and a ton of new books come out! I’m so excited for all the cozy autumn reads! My TBR may be even longer now, but honestly, I think fall is the best season to read in—and to read about. Therefore, I’ve compiled a list of 12 September book releases that I’m looking forward to, and you should be too.
Title: Wild Card
Author: Elsie Silver
Genre: Adult / Romance
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: Sebastian Rousseau is a grumpy, hot as hell fire pilot who is too damn good with his hands. It’s the perfect combination. But unfortunately for me, he’s also my ex-boyfriend’s dad. A chance meeting brought us together and a missed connection has kept us apart. One year later, a stroke of fate has us living under the same roof—which makes everything between us downright messy. Because even after all this time, he’s still the man I think about when I fall asleep. The one I can’t get over no matter how hard I try.
Why I Want to Read It: This is the fourth book in the Rose Hill series. While I haven’t read the previous ones yet, I had to mention this release because I’m a huge Elsie Silver fan. I binged her Chestnut Springs series, and this one features the ex-boyfriend’s dad/age-gap trope. Say less!
Title: The Most Unusual Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy
Author: Roan Parrish
Genre: Queer / Romance
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: Jamie Wendon-Dale may design haunted houses, but they don’t actually believe in ghosts―until they meet Edgar Lovejoy, who is tall, clever, beautiful…and 100% haunted. A little spooky, a little magical, and a whole lot cozy: The (Most Unusual) Haunting of Edgar Lovejoy will leave you feeling like you’ve found a brand new bookish family of your own.
Why I Want to Read It: The premise of this book sounds so good, and I love that it includes queer representation. We have Jamie, a paranormal skeptic, and Edgar, who’s basically a magnet for ghosts. It’s got opposites attract, spooky vibes, and New Orleans as the setting! Everything about this book screams perfect fall read.
Title: A Hexcellent Chance to Fall in Love
Author: Ann Rose
Genre: Lesbian / Romance
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: In this slightly spooky paranormal romance, will two women finally break their curse and get the happily ever after they’ve fought for?
Why I Want to Read It: This book is giving me sweet romance meets The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and I am 100% here for it! Honestly, give me a sapphic romance with paranormal elements set in the fall, and I’ll be hooked every time.
Title: Blood Moon
Author: Britney S. Lewis
Genre: Fantasy / Romance
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: A dark and thrilling, intensely romantic ride, a fresh take on a werewolf love story for a new generation of paranormal romance readers, and is the first book in a series. It is set against a high-stakes paranormal backdrop—a world ripe with secret identities, rich supernatural lore, and a forbidden romance… that comes with a deadly bite.
Why I Want to Read It: I have been highly anticipating this book for months! The author has marketed it as justice for Bonnie Bennett, and true Vampire Diaries fans know this is the story we’ve been waiting for. I also believe there’s a love triangle in the mix—a trope I haven’t read in quite a while—so I’m prepared for a messy and entertaining read.
Title: Everything She Does Is Magic
Author: Bridget Morrissey
Genre: Lesbian / Romance
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: In the charming town of Fableview, every day is Halloween. Get ready to fall under the spell of this bewitching sapphic romance, perfect for fans of Gilmore Girls and Wicked!
Why I Want to Read It: I’m usually hesitant when it comes to books marketed as Gilmore Girls-esque, but I’m hoping this one doesn’t let me down. Honestly, it sounds like such a cute and easy read. I do think it’s going to lean very YA, which I don’t gravitate toward much these days, but I’m still looking forward to a cute little YA romance set around Halloween.
Title: Play Nice
Author: Rachel Harrison
Genre: Horror / Gothic
Release Date: September 9, 2025
Summary: A woman must confront the demons of her past when she attempts to fix up her childhood home in this devilishly clever take on the haunted house novel from the USA Today bestselling author.
Why I Want to Read It: I am so nervous for this book because although I have only read one other book by this author (Such Sharp Teeth) I was not a fan of it. However, this book has too of my bookish buzzwords, horror and Gothic! I am a sucker for a haunted house story and making it Gothic is even better.
Title: We Met Like This
Author: Kasie West
Genre: Adult / Romance
Release Date: September 16, 2025
Summary: Beloved author Kasie West’s sparkling, seductive adult rom-com debut about a hopeless romantic falling for the one man she never expected.
Why I Want to Read It: When I found out that Kasie West was releasing her first adult contemporary romance, I was so excited. Her YA books have been a staple in my reading journey for years, and since I don’t read much young adult anymore, I was thrilled to see one of my favorite authors branching out into the adult genre. Plus, the premise involves a dating app, which perfectly reflects today’s dating world.
Title: The Austen Affair
Author: Madeline Bell
Genre: Romance / Historical Fiction
Release Date: September 23, 2025
Summary: Two feuding co-stars in a Jane Austen film adaptation accidentally travel back in time to the Regency Era in this delightfully clever and riotously funny debut.
Why I Want to Read It: Not only is the plot of this unlike anything I’ve read lately, but it’s giving Hallmark movie vibes, and I’m here for it! The time travel element is awesome because I really enjoy romcoms with a touch of magical realism. Plus, it’s clearly enemies-to-lovers—a trope I can never get enough of.
Title: The Heartbreak Hotel
Author: Ellen O’Clover
Genre: Romance / Contemporary
Release Date: September 23, 2025
Summary: A bed-and-breakfast for the brokenhearted might hold the key to another chance at love in this achingly hopeful debut romance.
Why I Want to Read It: I have such high hopes for this book because it features the grumpy/sunshine trope, which has become one of my favorites lately. The plot is giving cozy romance and found family feels, making me think it’s going to be a perfect autumn read.
Title: A Steeping of Blood
Author: Hafsah Faizal
Genre: Young Adult / Fantasy
Release Date: September 23, 2025
Summary: The epic conclusion to the #1 bestselling A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal; the gritty fantasy duology about an orphan girl and her crew who get tangled in a heist with vampires, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows.
Why I Want to Read It: I enjoyed the first book, A Tempest of Tea, so much more than I expected, and the cliffhanger ending left me eager to read this one immediately. The series has found family, vampires, and somewhat morally gray characters, which makes it such a compelling read. I’m nervous but excited to see how everything wraps up.
Title: Soul Searching
Author: Lyla Sage
Genre: Romance / Paranormal
Release Date: September 30, 2025
Summary: The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Rebel Blue Ranch series returns with a brand-new story, featuring a small-town upholsterer in need of a fresh start, a photographer whose life has come to a screeching halt . . . and the supernatural forces that bring them together.
Why I Want to Read It: I’ve been wanting to start the Rebel Blue Ranch series by this author for a long time, but as much as I think I’ll enjoy that series, the plot of this book intrigues me even more. The FMC can talk to ghosts! Plus, it’s a small-town romance, and the FMC and MMC are roommates. It just seems like it’s going to be a book I won’t want to put down.
Title: Ghost of a Chance
Author: Katherine Garbera
Genre: Romance / Paranormal
Release Date: September 30, 2025
Summary: It’s a cozy, spicy, spooky season treat in this opposites-attract romance between a mystery writer who pretends to talk to ghosts and the one-night stand who might actually be haunted…
Why I Want to Read It: When a book is described as cozy and spicy, it will most likely be going straight onto my TBR. I think the plot—about a pretend medium falling for someone who might actually be haunted—sounds both funny and adorable.
