About The Book
Most visitors to Skerry Island see only its lush greenery, picturesque cemetery, and quaint downtown. Yet generations of local women know that on Skerry, their benevolent witchcraft is at its most powerful. Beatrice Barnard doesn’t believe in magic. She definitely doesn’t believe the predictions of the celebrity psychic who claims that she will experience seven miracles and soon after she will die.

My Rating

*I’m very thankful to the publisher and author for providing me with an ALC of this book via Netgalley. As always, my review is completely honest and unbiased.*
I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! I loved the magical realism and the bisexual and trans representation in the story. As someone who loves witchy stories, this book was totally my vibe. It isn’t a cutesy romcom, but it’s told more in a literary women’s fiction style. I think readers who are fans of Weyward by Emilia Hart and The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young would enjoy this book as much as I did.
All the characters felt really different and super likable, and the plot was so engaging that I couldn’t put the book down. I stayed entertained the whole time I was reading. Even though the pacing was a bit slow, the story still felt like it was moving along with every chapter, which I really liked.
“A miracle is a gift. Plain and simple.”
I agreed with many of the main character’s feelings and thoughts. Even though I disagreed with some of her actions, I still understood her — especially since the magic was completely new to her and her newfound family was keeping her in the dark about so many things. And let me just say, the ending didn’t go the way I expected, but I loved how high the stakes got.
Overall, the book gives off major Practical Magic vibes, and I love finding stories that capture the same energy as a movie or TV show I enjoy. It honestly feels like Practical Magic meets Twitches, and I had such a fun time reading it. So if you’re looking for an interesting and intense witchy story that works not just for fall but any time of year, definitely add this one to your TBR.
