My Thoughts
From the moment I started the book, I was instantly hooked. The chapters were super fast paced, and as a longtime fan of anything involving cheerleaders (I was a huge fan of the Bring It On movies and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team series), I felt very intrigued by a mystery centered around the death of a famous cheerleading captain, Jentry Rae.
The story follows the perspectives of rookie filmmaker Nikki, who is determined to turn her Dallas Lonestars documentary into a true crime series and uncover the truth behind Jentry Rae’s death, and Shaunette, who carries many regrets about her friendship with Jentry Rae and holds secrets that could help catch her killer.
Overall, I wouldn’t call this a super intense mystery with lots of shocking moments, but the writing was engaging, the characters were likable, and the story was very entertaining. It was one of those mysteries I didn’t want to put down, even though the ending felt a bit predictable in my opinion. Still, it was a really fun read!
