Hi Friends,
Today I’m giving you a bit of an update on my reading. If you’re active in the book community, you know that readers love sharing their Last, Now, Next. It’s a fun little way to give some insight into what you’ve been reading and your upcoming reading plans. So, without further ado, here’s the last book I read, what I’m currently reading, and the next book I’m hoping to pick up.
Last: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson
This was actually a pretty fast-paced read, which was exactly what I needed to help me get back out of the reading slump I felt myself falling into. I wanted something a little bit spooky that would really put me in the October mood. I’m not a huge classics reader. However, there are some classic books that I do want to read, and this was one of them, especially since there are many movie and TV show adaptations of this book that I’m hoping to watch.

Now: If It Makes You Happy by Julia Olivia
I actually had to put this book down, and I’m just now picking it back up. I’m 50% of the way through it, and while I’m thoroughly enjoying the story, it’s a romance, and with everything I’ve been through this year in my personal life, it’s just really hard to read about two people falling in love during the fall. It also has the grumpy sunshine trope, which is one of my all-time favorites, so I think that makes it a bit harder for me to read. However, since it gives off fall vibes and takes place around Halloween, and I’m already so far into it, I just wanna go ahead and finish it.
Next: The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson
I’ve only read one book by Alexis Henderson, House of Hunger, and I loved that book! I’ve been wanting to pick up another one of their books for a while now, and this is one I’ve heard nothing but good things about. All I know about this book is that it’s Alexis Henderson’s debut novel, it involves witches, and it’s described as a feminist fantasy. All of that sounds amazing to me. I definitely anticipate this being a five-star read!
