Hi Friends,
Today, I’m going to be doing the ‘Bookmas’ tag! This tag was created by SophiesSeries on Booktube. Since, I am going to be doing the ‘12 Days of Bookmas’ this year, so I thought this would be a good start to Bookmas.

☸ The Lovebirds: Which two characters would you like to see under the mistletoe?
I have a review up on ‘One Of Us Is Next’ by Karen M. McManus, and I believe mentioned how much I loved the relationship that developed between Phoebe and Knox. Truthfully, I would read a whole book on their friends to lovers story. Although, I don’t really know if I can classify them as friends turned lovers. Still, I think finding them under the mistletoe together would be so cute.

☸ The Mismatched: Which unlikely pair of characters would get stuck under the mistletoe?
It would be hilarious if Selwyn and Nick from ‘Legendborn’ by Tracy Deonn got caught under the mistletoe together. They have this love-hate brotherly type of bond, so they would be pissed if this happened.

 

☸ The Grinch: Which character would spend the day with their face in a knot?
Leda Cole from ‘The Thousandth Floor’ series by Katharine McGee for sure! From what I’ve read she seems like such a negative person. I can just see her being in a grumpy, snarky mood during the holidays.

☸ The Naughty List: Which character has angered so many people that nobody felt like getting them a gift?
Possibly, Warner from the ‘Shatter Me’ books by Tahereh Mafi. This might be a stretch since I’ve only read the first book in the series. And, I do believe that Warner gets more likable as the books go on. However, I still feel like his colder demeanor would rub people the wrong way making them give him coal instead of a gift.

☸ The Fraud: Which character would assign a fake date to the gathering, just so they don’t appear alone?
I would say Avery Fuller from ‘The Thousandth Floor’ series, since I remember her doing something similar to this in the first book. She is seen as the perfect girl, so I think she’d feel like she always needs to attend every event with a handsome man.

☸ The Caroler: Which character does everybody have to yell at to stop singing Christmas songs?
Obviously Lily from ‘Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares‘ by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn! She was literally in a Christmas caroling group. Also, I don’t see her having any problem singing peoples ears off with Christmas tunes.

☸ The Klutz: Which character accidentally knocks over the Christmas tree?
This question was a hard one, but I am going to pick Charlie from ‘10 Truths and a Dare’ by Ashley Elston. He is such a goofball character, so I feel like he would do something impulsive and knock over the tree.

☸ The Snooper: Which character would ruin all of their surprises by trying to figure out what all the gifts are?
I think Kitty from the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ trilogy by Jenny Han. She is kind of spoiled and nosy, which makes me think she’d peek at the gifts. Also, I don’t think this has anything to do with her being the youngest, seeing as I am the youngest out of my siblings. And I would never sneak a peek at the gifts.

Bookish Holiday Tag

Hi Friends,
Christmas will be here in just a few weeks, and I thought a holiday tag would be a great way to celebrate the holiday season! This one has some fun, bookish questions, so I knew it would be the perfect tag to do.

• What is your favorite book to gift during the holidays?
Is there any other answer than ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens? I know you are probably sick of hearing me talk about how much I love this book. So all I’ll say is that it is a classic holiday story, that you cannot go wrong with giving.

• What is the best book you have ever received as a gift?
Last year, I received a steam punk edition of ‘A Christmas Carol’, and the year before I got ‘A Christmas Carol: Book-to-Table Edition.’ However, I think the most meaningful book I have been gifted is ‘A Muppet’s Christmas Carol‘. The book is based off the movie by the same name. The film is very special to my family, so I was happy, shocked and blessed to receive the book adaptation.

• What book do you hope to get this year?
Honestly, I don’t really have a Christmas list. I am grateful to have people that love me enough to give me a gift, but I never really ask for anything. Still, if I am asked what I want I always say books. Also, I would like a brush hairdryer, which might seems a little random.

• What is your favorite holiday movie?
Don’t yell at me, but I have to mention it again. My all time favorite Christmas movie is ‘A Muppet’s Christmas Carol’. However, I will tell you the other two holiday movies that I adore. The first is the Grinch – mainly the 1966 ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ cartoon. Yet, I also really enjoyed the 2018, The Grinch, animated version as well. Secondly, I am a huge fan of the ‘Princess Switch’ movies on Netflix. I like them all, but my favorite will probably always be the first one.

• What holiday song is always on repeat?
Can anyone just pick one holiday song? If I have to choose, then I’m going with my girl Taylor Swift. She released a small holiday album years ago. It was a Target exclusive album that I don’t think many people remember. On the album, she has a track called ‘Christmas Must Be Something More,’ which has such a powerful message. The song reminds us that Christmas isn’t about presents, decorations, or snow. It’s about so much more. As the Grinch said, “Maybe Christmas (he thought) doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.”

• What is your favorite holiday food to either make or eat?
It would be a tie between corn pudding and potatoes of any kind. We only have corn pudding on Thanksgiving and Christmas, so it is a rare treat. As for potatoes, I simply love them! I am fan of all potato dishes, from mashed to scalloped. Also, I do usually make the potatoes every year, so I maybe biased.

The Gilmore Girls Tag

Hi Friends,
Everytime the fall and winter seasons come I always start a rewatch of Gilmore Girls. Honestly, I watch Gilmore Girls multiple times throughout the year but it definitely gives me winter feels. For this reason, I thought it would be fun to do the ‘Gilmore Girls’ tag. There are many versions of this tag, but this is the one I chose to do.

• How did you discover the show?
I must admit that I don’t remember how I discovered the show. I believe that repeats use to come on Sunday nights. My brother watched the show ‘Smallville’ that night, and Gilmore Girls came on right before it. I would always see the end of the episodes. So, I started watching it. I believe the series was on the second season when I started watching it.

• Do you own the collection?
I own the completely series box set, the ‘Year In A Life’ revival on DVD and both of them on digital download.

• Favorite Season?
I loved the first three seasons equally, but if I had to choose I would have to go with season one. The debut season was standout in my opinion. Still, every season has some great episodes.

• Least favorite season?
That would hands down be season 7. I don’t hate it, yet I am disappointed in it. Especially, since it was the last season.

• Favorite Episode?
I have a lot of favorite episodes, but the one that I can’t get enough of is season 1, episode 6, Rory’s Birthday Parties. It was such a defining episode in the show. Rory and Dean started their relationship. Emily learned that there was a lot about Lorelai’s life she didn’t know. And, it has one of my all time scenes between Emily and Lorelai. In which, Emily says ‘Oh, if I had a dollar for every time you gave up.’ And, Lorelia replies ‘You could pay for this party, couldn’t you?’

• Dave or Zack?
I really loved Dave because cared so much for Lane. He did everything to get her mom to like him, and stayed up all night to read the bible to understand her mom’s cryptic message. However, I didn’t hate Zack. He was clueless but did love Lane. Also, he was a player before dating Lane but didn’t mind waiting to have sex until after marriage for her.

• Luke or Christopher?
Is this even a question? Luke! Obviously. Christopher was her past they weren’t the same people as adult that they were as teenagers. They didn’t work as adults. Luke and Lorelai completed each other. They brought out the best in one another. However, the whole April and Anna situation made me mad. In my opinion, he never would have hide it from Lorelai or put their wedding on hold. He loved her to much, and waited for her for too long.

• Lorelai or Rory?
I used to be more of a Rory girl, but after the 180 they did to her character in the revival. I am going with Lorelai. Also, during my rewatches I have grown more attached to Lorelai’s personality. But Rory is still great.

• Do you think Lorelai overreacts with her parents?
Yep. There is no denying that they aren’t the best parents. Still, Lorelai was always against their advice and took everything as a personal attack.

• Do you think Emily and Richard overreacts with Lorelai?
For sure. A lot of the time they looked down on Lorelai’s life. They wanted to force their ideas on her. They don’t understand her.

• In the big fight that Rory and Lorelai had whose side were you on?
This is a hard one because I agree with Lorelai that Rory was letting Logan’s dad crush her dreams. Rory was being impulsive and immature. However, Lorelai was being a bit controlling, which she always accuses her mom of being. Rory needed to figure things out for herself. Lorelai alienating her wasn’t the best move.

• In a fight between Taylor and Mrs. Kim who would win?
Mrs. Kim! She is one scary mama bear.

• Who would spread the fastest rumor Babette or Miss Patty?
Both. They are one in the same. They always know the town gossip.

• How much do you dislike April?
110% since they were trying to make her a mini version of Rory. Come on not every single mom can have a smart, book loving kid. Also, I didn’t see the need for the whole April storyline. The show already had a good balance of comedy and drama.

• If you could have dinner with any cast member, who would it be, and what kind of questions would you ask them?
Lauren Graham because she seems like a down to earth person. I would talk to her about her time on Gilmore Girls, Parenthood and forever being seen as Lorelai.

• How did you want it to end?
I didn’t mind the way the series ended since Luke and Lorelai got back together, and Rory was going off to live her dream as a reporter. As for the revival, I didn’t care for the Lorelai and Rory parallel thing. However, I wished they had jumped 10 years into the future showing Rory with a 9 year old. It would be cute if she named it Lorelai but she goes by ‘Lo’ or ‘Lori.’ But a time jump would make a second revival impossible. Still I would have liked one.

The Halloween Tag

Happy Halloween Friends!
I cannot believe that this is the last day of Spooktober 2021. I had a lot of fun creating 13 days of spooky content for you all. But I must say that I am a tiny bit happy we are on the final day. It was a good time, and I’ll probably do it again next year, but I need a blogging break. Don’t worry, my November TBR will still go up this coming week. Anyhow, for the last day of Spooktober I am doing the Halloween tag! This tag was created on YouTube, so I don’t know who originally created it. Before reading any further, don’t forget to enter my Halloween giveaway!

What is your favorite Halloween movie?
Is there any answer besides Hocus Pocus? It is a classic Halloween family film that never gets old. I do like other films, like Halloweentown and Halloween H20, but Hocus Pocus will always be #1 on my Halloween movie list.

What is your favorite Halloween costume you’ve worn?
When I was in third grade, I went as the Statue of Liberty. Funny enough, my teacher dressed up as the Statue of Liberty as well. However, my little elementary school self was very embarrassed by that. Also, I could argue that I looked more like a leftover than anything else. Thinking back on it, I would say it is my most memorable and probably favorite costume.

What is your fondest Halloween memory?
My wedding! I didn’t have an actual wedding, but last Halloween my husband and I got married. It was special, and spectacular.

Have you always been a Halloween lover?
Yes and no. I like the idea of Halloween, and have nothing against the holiday. But I wouldn’t classify myself as a die-hard ‘Halloween lover’.

What was the first scary movie you remember watching?
I remember watching the movie Faculty at a pretty young age, but I don’t know if it was my first scary movie. I know that me and my older sister went behind my moms back when I was like 10 years old to watch Wes Craven’s Cursed. Between the two, Faculty was way more scary.


What is your favorite Halloween song?
Calling All The Monsters by China Anne McClain! If only we had more pumpkin carols, (points if you understood that) then my answer would probably be more original. Still, if you are looking for a good Halloween party song, then this is it.

How do you get into the Halloween spirit?
By watching horror and thriller movies. But this year I read spooky books more than I watched movies, so I guess it would be reading the thriller genre.

Favorite Halloween decorations?
I have a little candy dish that looks like a skeleton’s hand is wrapped around it. Simple, but it still resembles Halloween, which I enjoy.

Favorite Halloween/Fall scent?
This year it has been anything apple and pumpkin. Usually, I love Leaves from Bath and Body Works, but it hasn’t smelled the same lately. I have gotten a lot of apple/pumpkin scents that give off those crisp autumn vibes.

What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Reese’s and Sour Patch Kids!

Vampires or zombies?
I have never been a big fan of zombies, and I just don’t get their appeal. Although, I do like the movie Zombieland, vampires are iconic. ‘Interview with a Vampire,’ ‘Twilight,’ ‘The Vampire Diaries’ – need I go on? They never get old, and can be kind of creepy. Come on, they can manipulate you and suck your blood. Talk about having someone for dinner.

What is your weird/odd fear?
Roller coasters! I don’t know if that’s a ‘weird’ fear, but roller coasters freak me out! I hate that I don’t have control on the roller coaster. Anything can happen during the ride, and there is nothing anyone can do. I blame Final Destination 3 for this one.

Favorite Halloween book?
I liked Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell. It is a cute friends-to-lovers contemporary graphic novel that takes place on Halloween night. It is set at a pumpkin patch filled with games, a corn maze, food, and more. I know that Rowell is a controversial author, though I must admit I am not sure about the reasoning behind the negativity towards Rowell.

What are you going to go as for Halloween this year?
Me! In all honesty, I probably will be wearing my comfiest Halloween PJs.

What are you doing for Halloween this year?
Staying in with some yummy treats and watching Halloween movies. It will be my one year wedding anniversary, so I will spend the evening with my love.

The Halloween Book Tag

Hi Friends,
In honor of the spooky season, and Spooktober Day 2, I wanted to do a Halloween-inspired book tag. I found the ‘Halloween Book Tag’ which seemed like a perfect fit. There are only a few questions, but it was a good tag to get me in the Halloween mood, since it is getting closer.

1) Carving pumpkins- what book would you carve up and light on fire?
This was a hard one, since I don’t normally hate a ton of books. But one that comes to mind was There’s Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. I talked about this in my adaptions post, but I really didn’t care for this book. It probably isn’t my least favorite book, yet I thought it would be a good pick being that it’s a YA horror.

2) Trick or treat- what character is a treat, what character is a trick?
I like Jacob a lot from the ‘Cassidy Blake’ series. I think her would be a entertaining best friends and not just because he’s a ghost. As for the trick, I would go with Leda from ‘The Thousandth Floor’ she’s kind of a loose cannon and unpredictable.

3) Candy corn- what book is always sweet?
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West! This book make me happy. It is a lighthearted enemies-to-lovers contemporary story that was done perfectly. Kasie West is a queen when it comes to YA contemporaries. I really need to reread it soon.

4) Ghosts- what character would you love to visit you as a ghost?
I don’t want any of my favorite characters to die, but I’m going to say Bet from ‘Little Women.’ This might be a cop-out since she passes away in the book, but she’s so sweet and kind. I think she’d be excellent company even in ghost form.

5) Dressing up in costume- what character would you want to be for a day?
Probably, Bonnie McCullough from ‘The Vampire Diaries’, yep, it was a book series first. Bonnie is a psychic and witch, which is pretty awesome. Also, who doesn’t want to be around hotties like Damon and Stefan.

6) Wizards and witches- what is your favorite Harry Potter moment?
I don’t support J. K. Rowling in any shape of form, but I will go ahead and answer the question. I have only read the first two books, but my favorite moment would have to be in ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ when professor Lockhart lost his memory. That whole scene was funny.

7) Blood and gore- what book was so creepy that you had to take a break from it for awhile?
‘The Project’ by Courtney Summers. I think I mentioned before, or in my review, that this book was haunting. It isn’t a horror book by any means, but it creeped me out.

The Cozy Fall // Book Tag

Hi Friends,
I knew that I had to do a fall book tag to celebrate the change in seasons. Autumn is one of my favorite times of year for many reasons.The cooler weather, movies and food. This tag was originally created by The Book Belle on Youtube and combines fall and books.

1) What book always reminds you of fall/autumn?
For years, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott has made me think of fall. The story takes place throughout all the seasons. But I will forever think of this story as a great fall read.

2) What is your favorite autumnal book cover?
The Fall Changes by Marie McGrath has a simple cover that sets the tone for a cozy fall contemporary. Truth be told, I haven’t read the book, but it is on my never-ending tbr.

3) What is your favorite autumnal drink to read with?
I am a sucker for fall Starbucks drinks. Their Salted Carmel Mocha is one of my favorite autumn drinks. Additionally, I fancy a hot cup of coffee with cinnamon creamer.

4) Do you prefer to read late at night or early in the morning?
Is anytime an acceptable answer to this question? I read mostly throughout the afternoon. Sometimes I will read during breakfast, or stay up late to finish a book. I am pretty much always reading.

5) Halloween is coming! What is your favorite spooky read?
I haven’t read many thrillers or horror books. My answer is probably pretty lame, but it is Coraline by Neil Gaiman. It is a spooky children’s book, which isn’t a huge genre.

6) What is the ultimate comfort read for you?
I have to go with one of my favorite series, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. The book starts in fall as school is starting back up. There is baking, family relationships and fake dating. I need to do a reread of this series, because it is one of my all-time favorite contemporaries.

7) What is your favorite autumnal reading snack?
I would say slice of gingerbread, since my mom only makes it in the fall. Which is a real shame because homemade gingerbread with apple butter is so yummy.

8) What is your favorite autumnal candle to burn whilst reading?
Leaves from Bath and Body Works is the perfect fall candle. The scent notes are red apples, golden nectar and cloves. It smells like hot apple cider on a cozy fall day.

9) When you’re not reading, what is your favorite autumnal activity?
Watching fall movies! Some of my favorite autumn films include Stepmom, Little Women, Matilda and Casper.

10) What is on your autumn/fall reading list?
How long do you have? Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker and The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White are at the top of the list.
Both are books that have been on my ‘to be read’ list for an embracing long time.

Disney Princess // Book Tag

Hi Friends,
A while ago, I did a post recommending books based on three Disney Princesses. Well, I came across the ‘Disney Princess Book Tag’. It seemed appropriate that I to do it, since you already know my love for all things Disney. The tag was created by Of Stacks and Cups.

1) Snow White – Favorite Classic?

Normally I would choose ‘A Christmas Carol’, since it is my all-time favorite book. But thought I’d step out of my comfort zone. I excepted myself to pick ‘Little Women’, which I did enjoy. Yet, the classic that sticks out in my mind is ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by J. D. Salinger. I don’t hear many people talk about, or like this book. I might be an oddball, but it is a pretty good classic in my opinion.

2) Cinderella – A Book you kept reading past bedtime?

A book has to be pretty amazing to make me stay up late. Since I can rarely make it passed 10pm before passing out. One book I know I couldn’t put down was ‘P.S. I Still Love You’ by Jenny Han. This is the second book in the ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’ trilogy, and my favorite of the three book. I was up pretty late to finishing this book.

3) Aurora – Favorite Classic Romance?

Can I say the family romance (love) in ‘A Christmas Carol?’ No, okay bye.

4) Ariel – A book about making sacrifices & not giving upon your dreams?

‘My Sister’s Keeper’ by Jodi Picoult is all about these two things. First off, I want to say that I don’t remember a lot of this book, but I apparently gave it three stars. However, I do remember the basics of the story. This book is all about sacrifices and getting the power to make your dreams come true. Things don’t turnout perfect at the end of this book, but it is a pretty powerful story. I would say it is more about sacrifices, but there is much more to the story.

5) Belle – A book with a smart, independent main character in it?

‘The Hate You Give’ by Angie Thomas! Starr grew into the strong and intelligent young women. She wasn’t afraid to fight for what was right, and call-out her so-called friends for their racist behaviors.

6) Jasmine – A book with a character who has challenged social norms of his or her world?

Audrey Rose in the ‘Stalking Jack the Ripper’ series. She has a passion for forensic medicine, and doesn’t care if society tells up it isn’t proper work for a girl. Unlike other girls, she gets a thrill from working on corpses in her uncle’s laboratory. She doesn’t care about people’s opinions and knows what she wants out of life.

7) Pocahontas – A book with an ending that was a roller coaster of emotions?

I have to go with ‘The Project’ by Courtney Summers (review). This book is a cult story that is full of twists and turns. It had my emotions all over the place for days.

8) Mulan – A book with a kick butt female character?

Instead of going with the obvious choice (Katniss Everdeen). My pick is a little different. There’s a character at the end of ‘There’s Someone Inside Your House’ by Stephanie Perkins that was totally bad-ass. The killer went after her, but she fought like hell not to die.

9) Rapunzel – A book that features an artist?

I don’t believe I have read any books featuring an artist except for ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants’ series. Lena, who was my favorite character, was an aspiring artist. She was sweet and shy, and expressed herself through her art work.

10) Merida – A book with a mother daughter relationship?

‘The Hazel Wood’ by Melissa Albert. Now the mother and daughter relationship isn’t a big feature in this book, but I found it very interesting. The twist about their relationship was unexpected.

11) Anna & Elsa – A book that has a great relationship between siblings?

I am going to go with ‘Conceal, Don’t Feel’ by Jen Calonita, which is a Frozen retelling. The book gives readers a look at “what if” Anna and Elsa never met. I thought the sibling relationship was special, because even though they didn’t know each other, they still had a bond. They both went out of their way to find one another. If that doesn’t portray the love of siblings, I don’t know what does.

12) Tiana – A book or the character puts her dreams above a romance?

What does it say about me that I don’t have an answer for this question. I typically read YA contemporaries, which are usually love stories. If you have a good answer to this question leave it below so that I can read it.

The Summer Bucket List // Book Tag

Hi Friends,
I wanted to do a bookish summer tag post, and after doing a little research, I decided that the “The Summer Bucket List” book tag would be the perfect choice.


1) Hit the Beach: a book set by the water?
I don’t believe I have read many books that take place by the water. The only one that comes to mind is “Listen To Your Heart” by Kasie West. I could be completely wrong about this taking place near water, but I am going to go with it anyways. This is a YA contemporary that has elements of romance, podcasting, and a love triangle of sorts. I usually enjoy Kasie West books, and this one was no exception.


2) Watch Fireworks: a book with a fiery romance?
I don’t know if this counts as a fiery romance, but recently I read “Cool For The Summer” by Dahlia Adlier. The characters started as friends and an unexpected romance grew from there. I think the romance was pretty intense. Some might even call it fiery.


3) Go for a Road Trip: a book that involves a journey?
I haven’t read a lot of books that involve a journey, yet I read “Time Of Our Lives” by Emily Webberly and Austin Siegemund​-Broka. It follows two high school seniors that cross-paths during their college tour road trips. I have a review on the book that you can read if you’d like.


4) Camp Under the Stars: a book that left you starstruck?
The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee! This is a YA contemporary with dystopian and sci-fi elements. The whole plot, including the twist at the end, left me 100% star-struck. This is another book that I have reviewed.


5) Marathon some Movies: a book you couldn’t put down?
This is an easy pick for me, If I’m Being Honest by Emily Webberly and Austin Siegemund​-Broka. I was going to DNF it, but I am very happy I didn’t. After the fifth chapter, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I finished it in two days, which is unusual for me.


6) Go Out for Ice Cream: a book with a sweet romance?
I chose “Simon vs the Homosapien Agenda” by Becky Albertalli. Sure, most of the romance took place through emails and the two didn’t know each others identities. But I loved how sweet and real their relationship was from the start. Simon and Blue fell in love in such an innocent and adorable way that you cannot help but love their relationship.


7) Picnic in the Park: a book that was a breath of fresh air?
This is an odd pick, but still, I have my reasons for choosing it. The book id “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini. The book deals with anxiety and mental health in a way that I haven’t seen before. I don’t know if I can classify it as YA, though it isn’t Adult, either. The story follows a teenage boy as he admits himself into the hospital psych ward. It talks about serious topics that a lot of books shy away of, which was very refreshing.


8) Go for a Hike: a character who conquered an obstacle?
How can I not go with Katniss Everdeen from “The Hunger Games” by Susan Collins. She, willing, volunteered to enter a game of life and death. Although she was fighting for her life instead of being ruthless, she was smart. She faced many challenges, all for the ones she loved. Also, she is badass.


9) Grill some BBQ: a book featuring delicious food?
Again, I haven’t read many books about food. But I am going with “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Jenny Han. The main Character, Lara-Jean Song-Covey, loves to bake. She makes tons of delicious sweets throughout the trilogy.


10) Watch the Sunrise: a book that inspired you?
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott! The relationship between the March sisters was inspiring. They supported each other always, even though they all chose different paths for their lives. It shows that not everyone has the same dreams and that is okay. It proves that there are more important things in life than money mainly family and love.

Mid-Year Book Freakout // Book Tag

Hi Friends,
Honestly, I cannot believe we are halfway through the year. It feels like just yesterday we were still dealing with the mess that was last year, and setting goals for 2021. I am happy that this year is turning out to be much brighter than the previous. And I have been reading more books than ever. I am going to be doing the “Mid-Year Book Freakout” tag. This is a book tag that was created a couple of years ago that has question about how your reading year has been going thus far.

Best Book You’ve Read So Far This Year?
Out of all the books I’ve read so far my favorite two are You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson and If I’m Being Honest by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley. I gave both of these books five stars and have reviewed them as well.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far This Year?
Sadly, right now I have only read one sequel, “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” by J.K. Rowling. I had never read the entire HP series before, so in 2019, I decided it was time to see what all the hype was about. Although the author is not my favorite person, to say the least, I still wanted to continue reading the books.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?
I am sure there are a ton, but one that comes to mind is Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales. It was released in March, and is, Leah On The Offbeat meet To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. It has a bisexual main character and what seems like a complicated romance. For me, this book could either be a two-star read or five-star, so I am nervous to pick it up.

Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year?
I had to do a little research for this question, and a book that caught my eye was Kendare Blake’s “All These Bodies”. I don’t know if it’s the fact that it reminds me of the Freeform series Cruel Summer, or that I am dipping my toes into the thriller side of reading. But I am interested in picking this book up as soon as it is released, on September 16. The story takes place in 1958—correct me if I’m wrong, and is about a serial killer that drains the blood from his victims. But when the Carlson family is murdered, the lead suspect is Marie Hale, who was found at the seen covered in blood. Does that not sound creepy and gripping?

Time Of Our LivesBiggest Disappointment?
I hate raging on books, but there are some that haven’t lived up to my expectations. The biggest disappointment for me was Time Of Our Lives by Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka. To say my that I had high-hopes for this book is an understatement. I was very frustrated with the book, and it was a major letdown for me.

Biggest Surprise?
The Thousandth Floor (The Thousandth Floor #1) by Katharine McGee automatically comes to mind. I am not a sci-fi fantasy reader normally, but this book was amazing. I loved most of the characters, and all the plot twists and turns. I hope that the rest of the series falls in the first books footsteps and surprises me as well.

Favorite New Author (Debut Or New To You)?
This year I have read a few new-to-me authors, but I wouldn’t say any of them have become a favorite. I have liked some more than others, yet I haven’t discovered a new instant-read author.

Newest Fictional Crush?
I am a happily married woman and love my husband dearly. But I do occasionally find some fictional characters very charming. Funny enough, my newest fictional crush is from a one of my disappointing reads of the year. I fell head-over-heels for the awkward, nerdy wordsmith that is Fitz Holton in “Time Of Our Lives.” He was sweet, smart and innocent, and he always put his family first. What girl can resist a guy like that?

Newest Favorite Character?
Is it bad to say I don’t have one. I have read many books with great characters this year, but none of them stand out to me as a favorite.

Book That Made You Cry?
100% Tunnel of Bones (Cassidy Blake #2) by Victoria Schwab, which might be a strange answer. For some reason this story book my heart. This series falls a young girl who can see ghosts, and along with her ghost best friend, Jacob, they help other spirits to move on. This book was a tad spine-chilling, but what pulled at my heart strings was the tragedy of the ghosts death. It was hard for me to read, and I shed some tears.

Book That Made You Happy?
Geekerella by Ashley Poston, since it was your typically lighthearted YA contemporary. The story was sweet and simple, as was the romance. I thought Ashley Poston did a fantastic job turning the classic story of Cinderella and turning it into a modern-day teen romance.

The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought So Far This Year (Or Received)?
I haven’t bought or received any books so far this year. I do love the cover of House Of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland. I wouldn’t say it describes the book plot as at all, but it is a very spring and summer cover with an unusual element.

What Books Do You Need To Read By The End Of The Year?
I don’t think there are any books that I have to read before the years end. But I have a lot of books that I would love to get to read. I want to finish some of the series I have started, and some hyped books I never got a chance to pick up. I would be happy to finish the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins that I started back in 2018.

Taylor Swift Album Book Tag

Hello bookish friends,
In honor, of the Tis the Damn Readathon I thought I would do a fun Taylor Swift inspired book tag. This is my first book tag on the blog and of 2021, so I am ready to get into the questions. I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I still wanted to take part in doing this tag. This tag was created by the lovely Maria @ A Daughter of Parchment and Paper. I used Maria’s graphics because they are amazing.

At the start of 2021, I read one of my new favorite YA Christmas romances, 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston. Now this book did have some flaws, but it was such a cute young adult contemporary that made me fall in love with Ashley Elston’s writing. The book follows a high-school girl who gets her heartbroken by her longtime boyfriend. Thus her over the top and caring family decided to take it upon themselves to help mend her broken heart leading them to set her up on 10 very interesting blind dates. Honestly, the love story was very predictable yet I enjoyed it and the Christmas season setting.

I don’t think I have ever read a novella before. There are some that I would like to get too, but sadly I have to skip this question. Sorry.

This one is easy since I talked about it in my “Book Blogging Newbie Tag” post. I discovered my love for reading with the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares. I know these books seems cheesy and I will admit looking back at them they don’t have the greatest plot. However, the series captivated me in such a way that made me want to keep reading forever. If you haven’t read the books, they follow four best friends that, over the course of the summer, share a pair of jeans that fit each of their differently shaped bodies perfectly. I would give the series 3.5 stars, but I completely recommend the first book which is my personal favorite.

This is a classic that I don’t find a lot of people, including my husband, enjoy. I happened to really like The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Yes, there wasn’t much of a plot to it and Holden Caulfield was a tad whiny at times, still it was an eye-opening read to me. My lovely husband contributes this to the fact that I was a good girl growing up without much raw life experience, but I just think I get Holden on another level.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is my pick for this question. I don’t know if most people would consider this a heart-stopping story, but it is for me. I read this book in about two days and it is a tough, yet important read. It deals with the after math of being raped, losing yourself and finding your voice. Honestly, stories like this are some of the hardest to get through still I found it an incredible read.

This book is a lot like Speak, but taken to the extreme. Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott is a story I will never forget and still gives me chills. The plot surrounds a girl called Alice who was abducted by a man name Ray at the age of ten. The story is told by Alice’s present self, now fifteen, and has lived a nightmare for the past five years. I will probably never read this story again, since it makes the pit of my stomach hurt just thinking about it. It is a very powerful read that has stuck with me for years.

I had to think about this one for a minute, but after doing some digging I chose Starr from The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The book is about police brutality of POC (People of Color) and much more. The main character Starr lives in a poor black popularity neighborhood, yet attends prestigious predominantly white school. Starr tries hard to separate her school and home life, but after witnessing the shooting and killing of a friend at the hands of the police she must speak out for what is right. Starr is use to shrugging off her friends ignorant, racist comments, yet we see her standing up for herself and not taking the hate in silence anymore. I loved seeing Starr come into her own and let go of the toxicity she had been ignoring for so long.

So….I don’t think I have answer for this question. Don’t hate me, but after going through the books I have read I cannot think of any morally grey characters. Oops! I don’t read a lot of fantasy, which might be why. I have instead decided to talk about a book series I’m interested in that I have heard has a morally grey character. The series is The Folk of the Air by Holly Black! I have the first book in the series The Cruel Prince on audiobook, but haven’t been in the mood to give it a chance. I know that this is a fantasy series about fairies, and you either love it or hate it. I have only attempted a Holly Black book once, which was a DNF, so I am nervous to pick this one up. Should I give this series a try?

Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan! I don’t remember this book much, but I have a lot of nostalgia for it. This is one of my mom’s favorite classic children’s books. I remember going to the book fair in elementary school and using my reading points to get this book for my mom. It is such a cute story about a widowed man that sends for a mail-ordered-bride to help care for his two children, Caleb and Anna. Thus Sarah, described as plain and tall, answers his call. This is an adorable story of love and family that will warm your heart.

Duh! A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens need I say more. I will probably mention this story multiple times on the blog since it is my all time favorite book. I love the writing in this beloved and classic story. Sure some parts are a bit slow, but there are many amazing passages from this story that I love rereading. My all time favorite being “It is required of every man,” the Ghost returned, “that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellowmen, and travel far and wide; and if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death. It is doomed to wander through the world — oh, woe is me! — and witness what it cannot share, but might have shared on earth, and turned to happiness!”

I am going with The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, which might seem weird since I haven’t read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan but hear me out. I have heard only good thing about these two companion series. They are both middle grade books and Greek mythology aspect to them. Percy Jackson is the main series, followed by the Heroes of Olympus books. However, I heard that the series don’t directly connect so they can be read as stand alones. I want to read these books very badly and embarrassed I still haven’t started either of these series.
