September 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
Today, I am doing my September TBR post, which is really just my ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ readathon TBR. In September, there is a month-long readathon inspired by The Vampire Diaries. More details on the readathon can be found on Chloe Reads Books’s Youtube channel. However, let us not waste anytime and jump right into what I will be reading.


I’ve been wanting to read ‘Gallant,’ since it was released. I am always down for a creepy-haunted house story. This one, from what I know, falls somewhere between middle grade and young adult, so it should be easy and quick to read.


Honestly, I tried reading ‘The Saturday Night Ghost Club’ for a readathon before and did not get too far into it. I do not think I was in the mood for it at the time, but I recently bought it, so I thought I should give it another chance. It is supposed to give off spooky fall vibes and should have a fun friend group.


There are so many books with school settings, so it was difficult to pick just one. I could have been daring and gone with dark academia, but I decided to play it safely and choose a middle-grade book. I have not heard anyone talk about ‘The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane, ’ but it is the first book in a mystery series set at a boarding school. The best aspect is that the audiobook is very short, which makes it perfect for a readathon.


This book probably holds the number one spot of books I want to read in fall. It is a gothic horror with historical fiction elements and vampires. I have heard mixed things about this book, but I think I am going to love it. Also, the plot of ‘House Of Hunger’ is giving me the same feel of the 2022 movie ‘The Invitation,’ yet I might be completely off with that comparison.


When the prompt of reading a popular book came up, I knew that ‘Legends And Lattes’ was going to be my pick. Not only is this book very popular, I hear that it is a great fall read. This book seems like a cozy fantasy, which is a genre I desperately want to read lately.


I loved ‘How To Survive Your Murder’ by Danielle Valentine, so which when I found out that she was coming out with an adult thriller book called ‘Delicate Condition’ I knew that I had to read it. I’m not going to lie, but this book might actually lean a little more towards horror than a thriller. It is supposedly Rosemary’s Baby meets Alien and is the basis for the new season of the American Horror story.


I am going to say that since the cover of ‘The Ex Hex’ by Erin Sterling is primarily dark, it works for this prompt. This book is always so talked about in the fall, so I had to jump on the bandwagon and see what all the hype is about. From what I can tell it is your classic witchy rom-com, so it will most likely be a cute and cozy read.


I was so lucky to have been given an ARC of ‘Ghosted’ by Sarah Ready, which will be released on September 26th. Since it is an adult romance, it perfectly fits the romance prompt. The fact that it features a ghost makes me think it might be a good fall read, even though the cover is giving off spring time.


Is Prom considered a party? This book has been on my radar for some time because the premise sounds very good. This book is essentially a retelling of ‘Carrie’ by Stephen King. How does this not seem amazing? I read ‘White Smoke’ by this author and liked it, but I think that I will enjoy ‘The Weight of Blood’ more.


Of course, being ‘The Vampire Diaries’ readathon, you must read a vampire book. Now I could double up and read ‘House Of Hunger’ for this prompt too, but I want to push myself and not share books. So, I am going to read ‘Big Bad’ by Lily Anderson, which is an adult dark ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ retelling or more like inspired by Buffy. I loved Lily Anderson’s writing in ‘Undead Girl Gang,’ so I am excited to see if I feel the same way about this book.

August 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
It’s TBR time again! Just like last month, I’m using a prompt list I found off Pinterest to help me pick my prompts. There are 50 prompts, and I use a random number generator to help me pick the prompts. I started off by using the same random number generator to help see how many books I’ll be reading. I only do 1 – 10, because I usually don’t read more than 10 books in a month. This time around, I got 9, so I’ll be reading 9 books and picking 9 prompts!

However, just like last month I can only pick books off my physical TBR or audiobooks I own/have on the Libby app.

My first pick was number 23 and the prompt is ‘Read a Historical Fiction Novel’. Honestly, I struggled with this prompt, because I don’t really gravitate towards historical fiction, but with my husband’s help, I ended up choosing ‘The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle’ by Stuart Turton. I don’t know much about this book, except that it’s a murder mystery set in the 1920s.

The next prompt is 21, which is ‘Read a Book Set in NY ’. I had a few options for this, but I decided to pick an adult thriller that I’ve been dying to get to, ‘Not a Happy Family’ by Shari Lapena. I’m not really sure what this book is about, but it does take place in New York, so it fits the prompt.

Then I got prompt 27, which was ‘Read A Book with a Happily-Ever-After ending’. The book that I will be reading for this prompt is ‘When In Rome’ by Sarah Adams. I’m not entirely sure if this has a happy ending, but it’s a romance, so I’m going to assume it does.

The next prompt was number 48, which is ‘Read A New To You Author’. I had a few options for this but I ultimately decided it was time for me to read my first Simone St. James book. I own ‘The Book of Cold Cases’, which is a thriller with a true crime element.

Next up I got prompt 20: ‘Read a Book that Starts with The’. So, the title has to begin with ‘The’, which is pretty easy, considering a lot of book do that with their titles. I’m going with a book that I’ve been wanting to read for a while, which is ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ by Richard Osman. This is apparently a funny mystery book series that takes place in a retirement home.

Yay, I got prompt number 2, which is ‘Read a Book that is More Than 300 Pages’. This book is just barely over 300 pages, abut it makes the cut at 318, and that is ‘The Housemaid Secret’ by Freida McFadden. I read the first book and loved it, so I can’t wait to see if the sequel is even better.

The random number generator was nice to me and gave me number 15, which is ‘Read a Retelling’. I love a good retelling, and have quite a few on my shelf. I went with ‘The Shadow in the Glass’ by J.J.A. Harwood, a gothic retelling of Cinderella.

Luckily, I got prompt 41, ‘Read a Book you Bought’ that’s pretty simple since I have a book buying problem. Although, I’m not actually in the mood for this book, but it’s part of a series and I really want to start finishing some series. The book is ‘Daughter of the Siren Queen’ by Tricia Levenseller. I bought the beautiful special edition hardback copies of this series. I read the first book in June, so I want to get to the second book while the first one is still fresh in my mind.

Last but certainly not least, I got number 7 ‘Read a Thriller, Mystery or Suspense Novel’. This couldn’t be more perfect, because that’s one of my favorite genres. I had a lot of options, but my mood is leaning towards ‘56 Days’ by Catherine Ryan Howard. This is a suspense novel that takes place during the time of Covid and lockdown. I can’t wait for it!

Now for my book club pick! If you don’t know, I have a book club called ‘The Reading Rabbits’ over on the Novellic app. This month the book is ‘You Shouldn’t Have Come Here’ by Jeneva Rose. This is an adult mystery thriller about a woman that falls for a man that starts to become obsessive.

Xmas Evil in July 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
I am doing another readathon! I know, two readathons in one month, who am I? I will be taking part in the ‘Xmas Evil in July’ readathon that will run from July 16th – 31st. This is a Christmas in July inspired readathon, which I am here for. There are only three reading prompts, so they should be fairly easy to complete.

Read a Holiday Book
The first prompt is simple enough and that’s to just read any holiday book. I am most likely going to read ‘All I Want For Christmas‘ by Maggie Knox. I read ‘The Holiday Swap‘ by Knox last year and loved it, so I have high hopes for this book. However, I might pick up ‘Tis The Season For Revenge’ by Morgan Elizabeth as well (or instead of) but I’m not sure yet.

Read a Book Set During Summer
This is a no brainer, because my Libby loan of ‘You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight‘ by Kalynn Bayron should be coming in very soon. I have been dying to read this summer YA slasher, and the audiobook is very short. I love a good short book for a readathon.

Read a Mood Read
Obviously, I can’t actually pick out a book for this prompt since I don’t know what I’m going to be in the mood for during the readathon. Although, I still need to read ‘The Summer of Broken Rules‘ by K. L. Walther, which is my book club read for the month. And, with the readathon taking place during the last two weeks of July, it might be nice to get one of my last summer reads out of the way.

Summerween 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
I know that I’ve just posted my July TBR, but July 7th was the start of Summerween! If you’d don’t know what Summerween is, you’re missing out. For all the details on the readathon, you can watch Gabby from GabbyReads announcement video on Youtube. Basically, this is just a week-long readathon that is all about bringing the spooky season into summer, hence the name: Summerween. There are only a few prompts, and I think my TBR is quite manageable to participate in a week long readathon.

Read A Thriller:
For this prompt I’m going to be reading ‘Every Last Fear’ by Alex Finlay, which, as you might know, is already on my July TBR. Why not kill two birds with one stone?

Read A Book Set In Fall: –and– Read A Book With Orange Or Black On The Cover:
Now I could be completely wrong, but I think that ‘The Haunting of Aveline Jones’ by Phil Hickes takes place in the fall. There are even leaves on the cover, and the color orange. So, I’m going to be using the book for two prompts.

Read A Manga, Graphic Novel, Or Novellla:
Last month, I started the ‘Fence’ graphic novel series by C.S. Pacat. I’m on volume 2, so I’ll probably end up reading that during the readathon.

There is one more prompt, which is simply to read at night or in the dark. I didn’t pick a specific book for that because I’ll probably use one of my already picked books to complete that prompt.

July 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
Happy July! I am excited to be doing my July TBR, and yes I know I said I was going to stop doing TBRs, but the planner girl in me just can’t stop. But, I want to make my TBR a little more fun. I found a numbered list of prompts from Pinterest, and used a random number generator to pick my prompts. Also, I used a random number generator between 1 – 10 to see how many to pick. Here’s the catch – I can only pick books off my physical TBR or audiobooks I own via Kobo or Audible. First up the random number generator gave me 6, which means I’m picking 6 prompts and reading 6 books. But, to make things more interesting if I get the same prompt, twice I have to add a book. Let’s see how this goes.

This first number I got was 8, which is ‘A Book Set In The Decade You Were Born’! I’m very happy for this because I’m a nineties girl and I just bought ‘Throwback’ by Maurene Goo on audiobook. It’s about a teen girl that is sent back to the 90s to help her teenage mother. I can’t wait for all the 90s references.

Next up, I got the number 3 and the prompt is ‘A Book Outside Your Comfort Genres’.
I decided to go with ‘Talking as Fast as I Can’ by Lauren Graham. I barely read memoirs, or rather, nonfiction in general, but I own this book and I am probably the biggest Gilmore Girls fan ever. And, it’s read by Lauren Graham, which is amazing.

The next number was 9 giving me the prompt ‘A Book That’s Been On Your TBR For 2 Or More Years’. This was more difficult than I thought it would be, because I’m only picking from my owned books. But, I decided to go with ‘As Old As Time’ by Elizabeth J. Braswell. This is a part of the Twisted Tales series, which is essentially a book series of different middle-grade/young adult Disney retellings. From the title you can probably guess that this book is a ‘Beauty and the Beast’ retelling.

Thankfully we got the number 22, because the prompt was ‘A Book By An Auto-Buy Author’. There are so many authors that have become favorites of mine over the last year. Originally, I was going to pick ‘One Of Us Is Back’ by Karen M. Mc Manus, since I pre-ordered the book. But, since it doesn’t come out until the end of the month, I’m going to go with something else. So, my pick is ‘Every Last Fear’ by Alex Finlay, which is the author of ‘The Night Shift’, a book that I loved.

Luck was on my side once again, by giving me the number 15. The prompt was ‘Read A Retelling’. If you know me than you know I love retellings, so my pick is ‘The Wicked Ones‘ by Robin Benway. This is a retellings following the evil stepsisters from Cinderella. It happens to be another one of my Kobo audiobooks.

Last, but certainly not least, I got the number 28, which was the prompt ’Read A YA’. Simple enough. I am going easy on myself here, and pick a book that I just started, which is ‘Kisses and Croissants‘ by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau. This is a YA contemporary set at a ballet school in Paris.

The only thing left is to talk about my Novellic book club pick, which is ‘The Summer of Broken Rules‘ by K. L. Walther. You can join my Reading Rabbits book club on the Novellic app!

Friday Reads #17

Hi Friends,
Happy Friday! This weekend, I’ve got some major reading plans! Seriously, I’ve come up with a whole little reading schedule. Now, I believe that I can finish all of these books this weekend, but I’m a bit of an overachiever. Aiming high isn’t always a bad thing though, am I right?

Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour (50%): This is an adult contemporary story that I’m halfway through. So, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to finish it this weekend.

Never Vacation with Your Ex by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley (30%): This is your standard YA contemporary romance that I’m (surprisingly) enjoying. If you know me, you know I have a love/hate relationship with this author duo. I’m hoping to knock this book out this weekend as well, since YA romance are typically pretty fast reads.

Dear Future Mama by Meghan Trainor (15%): Most of yiu probably don’t know this, but I’m 30 years old and trying to get pregnant with my first child. And, this pregnancy journey has been anything but easy. So, I’m always looking for advice on baby making. This book is such a quick read and Meghan is such a fun narrator. I will most likely going to be finished with it this weekend.

Hello Friends,
It’s time for another Friday reads post! I am going to try and finish a few books this weekend, but as always this is a flexible weekend TBR. I might change things up depending on what my Libby app has available on Audiobook, but I like having options.

‘Furyborn‘ by Claire Legrand
I’ve been reading this book for months and still just at 30%. It’s a YA fantasy that is apart of my 12 Book Challenge.

‘A Magic Steeped in Poison‘ by Judy I. Lin
I’m like 4% into this young adult fantasy, but so far I am loving it! I’m really going to try and get this finished but the end of the weekend.

‘With and Without You‘ by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley
I’ve read every YA contemporary released by this author duo. But, I have yet to get to their release from last year, which is about two teens trying to navigate a long distance relationship.

‘Icebreaker’ by Hannah Grace
I posted a poll on my Bookstagram account voting on what ‘smutty‘ book I should read and this was the winner. Guess, I’m going to be seeing what all the hype is about.

Spring 2023 // To Be Read

Hi Friends,
Today, I’m going to be doing my Spring TBR! I’ve decided to start doing more seasonal TBRs, since I’m a huge mood readers. However, I’ve been super active on Bookstagram and Booktok. And, on Booktok I’ve started doing a TBR jar, so each month I’ll pick out four books from that jar. If you want to see my picks for April go follow me on TikTok (@BooksWithBunny). Anyways, let’s get on to the books I hope to read this spring!

Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter: I have become a huge Lynn Painter fan, so I have decided to dive into her adult romances. I hear that this is a really funny and cute romance.

Love Wager by Lynn Painter: This is the second book in her ‘Mr. Wrong Number’ series. I don’t know much about it but the color is yellow, which makes me think of spring.

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston: I’ve read some of the authors YA work before, and admittedly, didn’t love them. However, I’ve heard only good things about this book. It’s a romance with a main character that falls in love with a ghost. It’s giving off major ‘Just Like Heaven’ vibes.

Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon: I have absolutely no idea what this book is about, but it follows a weather girl, so I’m sold. Anyone who knows me in real life knows that I’m obsessed with the weather, so this book is perfect for me.

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez: This is an adult romance that has to do with a women that is infertile. I’m excited to read this because Abby Jimenez is a very popular author, but, as I’m struggling to conceive as well, it might be a very hard read for me.

With And Without You by Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley: I have a love hate relationship with this author duo. I loved their book ‘If I’m Being Honest’ but have hated nearly all of their other books. However, I’m going to give this one a read, and see if they can prove they’re not just a one hit wonder in my book.

She Gets the Girl by Alyson Derrick and Rachael Lippincott: All I know is that this is a queer love story, and it’s written by one of the authors of ‘Five Feet Apart’. Enough said.

Promposal by RaeChell Garrett: This was on my most anticipated romance releases of 2023. As you can tell from the title it’s a young adult contemporary about prom. So, I have to read it around prom seasons.

Tell Me What Really Happened by Chelsea Sedoti: I know nothing about this book, except for the fact that it’s a YA mystery/thriller, but leans more toward the mystery side of things. The cool thing is that it’s told mostly through police interviews.

She Is a Haunting by Trang Thanh Tran: Honestly, I can’t remember what this book is about, but I know that it’s a YA thriller. And, it is said to be perfect for fans of ‘Mexican Gothic’. While I didn’t love that book, I remember being intrigued by this one’s plot.

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager: I’ve been wanting to pick up a Riley Sager book for sometime and this is the one I’ve chosen to read first. I believe it’s about a woman that thinks she witnessed a murder. However, I’m pretty sure she’s an unreliable narrator.

Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins: This book has mixed reviews, but I still want to read it for myself. It is a ‘locked island’ thriller, which sounds unlike anything I’ve read before.

March 2023 // To Be Read

Hello Friends,
It’s TBR time once again! I’ve decided to take part in the ‘Final Book Support Group’ month long readathon created by Steph Loves. I’m going to be on ‘The Stag’s Antler’ team, and the prompts seem pretty easy to fulfill. As always, I still did five “The Sims Picks My TBR” prompts, so I’m going to try to make the books work for multiple prompts.

Sims Prompt: 12 Book Challenge
This is perfect because I’m February I started ‘Furyborn’ by Claire Legrand, which is on my ‘12 Book Challenge’. I’m just going to roll this over into March.

Sims: New To Me Author
‘The Bandit Queens’ by Parini Shroff is also on my ‘12 Book Challenge’, and I’ve never read anything by this author.

Sims Prompt: Short Story Collection
Not going to lie, I was a little bummed when this prompt came up. I have read a few short story collections and I don’t typically love them. However, I read ‘Whiteout’ last December, and I currently own ‘Blackout’ – see where this is going? I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to read this book! Both books are collections of short stories that all intertwine. They follow a diverse selection of teens, and are written by some wonderful authors.

Sims Prompt: Published in 2021 or Before
Final Book Prompt: Final Book
‘This Coven Won’t Break’, which is the last book in the ‘These Witches Don’t Burn’ series by Isabel Sterling, was published in 2020. So, it works for both these prompts!

I’m going with ‘For Better or Cursed (The Babysitters Coven, #2)’ by Kate Williams. Even though I’m not really in the mood to read this book, I did enjoy the first book enough to want to continue on with the series.

Final Book Prompt: Random Emoji Generator
The emoji that I got was 🔱, which instantly made me think of ‘Part Of Your World’ by Liz Braswell. This is part of the Twisted Tales series, and one that I’ve been really wanting to read.

Final Book Prompt: Hardback Book
I’m going to cheat a little here, since I am solely an audiobook reader (and I’m also not ashamed of that). But, I decided to pick a book that is only out on hardback right now. As far as I can tell ‘Our Violent Ends (These Violent Delights, #2)’ by Chloe Gong is only available in stores in hardback.

Final Book Prompt: Something Calm and Majestic
‘This Spell Can’t Last’ is a novella in the ‘These Witches Don’t Burn’ series. The word majestic makes me think of magic and with this book being short that is pretty calming to me.
